Jungle Scout Review (In-Depth) (2023)
The new year blew right past us. The pandemic has taught us a few things about the areas of improvement for e-commerce. With the likely permanent shift to online operations, you can take one of two approaches: continue to do things business as usual or take your Amazon business to the next level with better product research, listing management, inventory tracking, and even brushing up on your knowledge. Naturally, the most brilliant sellers will take the latter route, where Jungle Scout, arguably one of the best toolkits for Amazon selling, really shines.
Stick around to the end, where I share a massive discount on all Jungle Scout plans, at least $200 and up to $1,000 in savings!
Who is Jungle Scout?
Before we kick off this Jungle Scout review, let me take you back to 2015. Then, tools like Jungle Scout didn’t exist as we know them today as a means to make selling on Amazon, product research, inventory management, and more all live in one place and be a cohesive unit.
Fast forward to 2019, Jungle Scout is over 120 employees with offices in three countries and shows no signs of slowing down.
About Jungle Scout CEO & Founder Greg Mercer
Greg Mercer is the brainchild behind Jungle Scout. An 8-figure Amazon seller, he knows a little about how to sell products on the marketplace and make money in the process. Greg won the award for Best Amazon Seller from The Seller Awards.
If his name sounds familiar, you’ve seen or heard about him at one of the many Amazon and e-commerce seller-centric conferences and expos, including SellerCon, Sellers Summit, and Brand Accelerator.
In 2016, Greg was featured in Forbes, and here’s what they had to say:
Greg Mercer , 28, and founder of Amazon product research software Jungle Scout, has taken a different approach. Harkening back to Teddy Roosevelt’s urging to “speak softly and carry a big stick,” Mercer has put his money where his mouth is, so to speak. In a unique take on an extended case study, Mercer decided to start a company with two main objectives: teach people how to successfully launch a business and donate all profits to a good cause.
The Maryland native is a seasoned e-commerce entrepreneur himself. He understands firsthand the challenges of starting and scaling a business. However, more importantly, he also knew the blueprint that has allowed him to launch numerous e-commerce brands to repeated and predictable success.Laura Inamedinova, writing for Forbes
Top 3 Reasons to Use Jungle Scout
1. Gateway to Hundreds of Millions of Shoppers
It’s no secret that Amazon is the largest North American e-commerce platform. In 2018, TechCrunch reported that Amazon’s United States market share covered 49% of e-commerce and 5% of all retail spending. For all of 2018, Amazon did over $232 billion in sales. In 2019, Amazon had the most valuable brand, and in October of this year alone, it saw 2.1 billion visitors to its web properties.
I don’t have to tell you why this is a big deal. Selling on the Amazon marketplace is massively lucrative and has a built-in audience. No massive marketing budgets, no sales teams.
2. The Benefits of Such a Powerhouse Tool such as Jungle Scout
The days of Jungle Scout only serving one purpose are gone. Yet, today, I still see folks talk about its product research abilities but never really dig into all the other components and toolsets that Jungle Scout provides. Instead, sellers have become pulled apart across a half-dozen different tools that all have their paradigms, user interfaces, and quirks.
No business industry wouldn’t enjoy having a single tool to do most of the work. Cutting down on subscriptions, only having to learn one set of nuances, having one point of contact for everything–this is something I wish existed when I started selling on Amazon.
I love that I can shrink my tools budget by multiples because I no longer need to pay $500 a year for an inventory tool, $1200 for restock tracking, etc. When I started this Jungle Scout review, it didn’t quite hit me how much money I’m now saving. However, these substantial amounts result in more money in my pocket to grow the business.
3. Trust, Verified
When making product decisions, the data you’re looking at must be accurate. Using actual statistical data from real ASIN sales and sales projections, Jungle scout hit a massive 84% accuracy rating.
I could spend another thousand words talking about this, but instead, go check out my post on Jungle Scout’s accuracy and how it was measured.
If real-world, third-party data is more of your thing, the almost 1,400 reviews on Trustpilot should help swing things in the right direction. With 4.5 stars and 82% of reviewers giving an Excellent rating, I cannot discount the true potential of Jungle Scout.
Jungle Scout vs. Helium 10 vs. Viral Launch
Comparing the three heavyweights is what people want to see, I know. Three big names in the Amazon selling space. All three have their unique traits. After poking at all three over the last year, I realized I needed to step back and look at everything each platform offers its users.

The 8 Jungle Scout Power Features To Grow Your Amazon Business in 2023
Jungle Scout is way more than just a product-sourcing tool now. I opted to go all-in on the platform with all these features, which has replaced several other tools I used regularly. Not only did this save me money, but it saved me sanity too.
I was stoked when I heard about all the new features coming to Jungle Scout a couple of months ago. Beyond stoked. Massively, intensely excited, one could say. However, as the new content drops came each week, I started feeling overwhelmed with all the action that was taking place. So instead, I stepped back, waited for everything to level off, and decided to dive in with all the information in front of me so I could sift through it at my own pace.
With the advent of Jungle Scout’s Power Features, it’s high time we talk about what they are and how they can take your Amazon selling to new heights in 2023.
1. Supplier Database
The first feature on the list isn’t new and won’t be foreign to most users of Jungle Scout. The Supplier Database is, in my opinion, a hidden gem and a valuable one. The JS team has built a tool that allows sellers to find manufacturers right within Jungle Scout, a name they maybe trust more than Alibaba or DHGate.
While already an excellent resource for finding suppliers, Jungle Scout took the tool to the next level by introducing a new component that’ll make sourcing a manufacturing company easier and a company that can actually make what you’re looking to build.
Search by ASIN
They call this ASIN search. Searching by ASIN instead of product keywords can potentially return results describing which company(its) made that product.
Search by Company
This complements the existing search functionalities of looking for manufacturers by keyword, company, or supplier. Search by company yields a similar result as by-ASIN.
It might seem like woo-magic-bull, but in fact, data about products imported into the United States is more or less public record. Jungle Scout hasn’t told me how they’re fetching the data, but it’s a likely source. By matching the brand with its owner (trademark searches), they can pull import records for that company.
It might seem like cheating–and in a way, it is. But it’s so easy now. In reality, the rest of the market would call this competition research. Getting your hands on the factory that makes what your competitor makes is money. This allows for a swift entry into a system with a proven track record and is already known to make your next widget.
Deep Diving into Individual Suppliers
So now that you’ve found a supplier, it helps get an accurate clear picture of them and how they operate, what they specialize in, etc. The Supplier Database breaks all that down for you in an easy-to-consume table.
Take it one step further, say you’ve established a few suppliers as prime candidates for sourcing your product. Keeping tabs on all this is a must, especially if multiple products are in play and only one supplier makes one product in your empire.
The Supplier Tracker component of Jungle Scout sits right next to the Supplier Database. It allows you to group your suppliers based on your product ideas (something Jungle Scout also helps you track), location, or other arbitrary flags or fields. Create as many or as few groups as you require and add your suppliers to them for maximum supplier organization.
We’ve just scratched the surface of all the content to come. Jungle Scout is one of my favorite Amazon selling tools, and I continue to be a member because I see the team’s dedication to their products. I never hesitate to recommend Jungle Scout as an option for Amazon sellers, especially those in the Private Label space.
2. Jungle Scout Academy
The Jungle Scout Academy is one of the eight power features I’m highlighting. It comprises six courses to start in perfect proportions to consume as you see fit. Of course, you could also sit down and binge the whole lot at once–we won’t judge–if you’re so inclined. The Academy interface makes it easy to get that done.
Once you’re in one of the courses, you’ll see a well-laid-out course page. The current video is front-and-center, and the easy-to-navigate lesson list is off to the right. Any other relevant information will be sitting below.
Here are the six courses Jungle Scout has available at the time of this writing:
- Getting Started Selling on Amazon (4 episodes). An introductory to what this whole “selling on Amazon” thing is about and what you should come to expect as you dig in.
- Product Research (12 episodes). This course starts with how to do product research and consider competition, demand, and legal considerations like patents.
- Optimize Your Listing (6 episodes). You have a listing, but it could be better. To take care of that, this course gets you thinking about what components of a listing matter the most and the content you need to inject to maximize search traffic.
- Launching Your Product (5 episodes): Your product is ready. This course covers getting that product in front of potential customers for maximum awesome.
- How to Use Jungle Scout (11 episodes). An opportunity to sit down and deep-dive into the entire world of Jungle Scout, from stem to stern.
- Jungle Scout Launch (4 episodes). A mini course explicitly designed for learning the ins and outs of Jungle Scout Launch, a tool built for launching new products on the Amazon marketplace.
New content will drop monthly, including upcoming courses like inbound shipments and PPC.
Every Jungle Scout subscription will come with Jungle Scout Academy free, even if you only pay for the Extension. I’ll be looking at these videos, and I suggest you do, too.
3. Jungle Scout Sales Analytics
E-Commerce is an immensely fast-paced industry, so making decisions quickly is essential. However, to do that, one needs to have all of the most important data ready to go, without all the noise to go along with it. The Jungle Scout Sales Analytics dashboard displays unit data, profits, revenue breakdowns, and historical data for trends.
Further Reading: Sometimes, you have to think like Amazon to get ahead in e-commerce.
From there, a seller can drill down and get more specific bits of info around the product costs and expenses, or product metrics, as discussed in the following two sections.
Track Product Costs and Expenses
It is critical to know exactly what your product is doing and how it sells. Jungle Scout Sales Analytics has all the information you need right at your fingertips:
- Units sold (including items sold under promos and items pending)
- How the net margin breaks down for the product: profit versus total revenue
- How the ROI breaks down: profit versus product cost
- What those costs entail (shipping, FBA fees, etc.)
- How those costs change over time
- And more!
Detailed Product Metrics
All of the tabs and displays within Jungle Scout Sales Analytics break down each financial category very well. There’s nothing left to ambiguity because sellers now have 100% coverage of the line items that comprise a monetary category.
The dashboard even goes so far as to bake refunds, promotions, and reimbursements into the sales data, so the numbers you see show the entire picture of your business’ health. Sellers can ask questions like “how much were refunds this year?” or “how much did Amazon reimburse me for damaged products?” and have that data front and center.
4. Jungle Scout Keyword Scout
Jungle Scout Keyword Scout is a part of Jungle Scout’s list of Power Features, including killer tools like Sales Analytics and Academy. Keyword Scout helps you find keywords that work and will power your listing to within the reach of Amazon shoppers looking for the next thing.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Jungle Scout Keyword Scout is its ability to discern the rough number of searches a keyword string is seeing. So instead of guessing how powerful a keyword or keyword phrase is, you’ll have the option to pick them out based on cold, complex data right from the start.
Taking it even further, see those search volumes over a period of time, too, in clean and beautiful graph form. These graphs let you establish trends and popularity without doing long-tail research yourself.
Jungle Scout Keyword Scout helps you build better listings by recommending only the best keywords and keyword phrases for the product, ensuring you’re spending the right amount of money on PPC, and targeting the right audience. For example, the last thing you need is to have a product for dogs that appears when people look for hot dog utensils.
Keyword Scout comes free with Jungle Scout and is a part of the web app package. Use it by itself or alongside its other components for maximum effect.
5. Jungle Scout Opportunity Finder
For those who’ve spent time with Jungle Scout, you’ll already be familiar with its searchability. However, the array of levers and sliders that let users filter and fine-tune their product research also comes with opportunities. Turn the knobs to get an output of only the most valuable opportunities, including the sales volume, price ranges, and how popular an opportunity might be based on its search volume. For example, a high search volume opportunity with low sales may indicate the potential for significant disruption and potential sales action to turn big profits.
Once you have an opportunity, get a better picture of the existing state of affairs. See how products are selling overall to get an idea of seasonality, listing quality, and what you can improve to make this niche one that ends up printing your money.
There’s no shortage of entry points into new product niches on the Amazon platform. Jungle Scout Opportunity finder can make finding those openings easier and reduce the noise.
6. Jungle Scout Rank Tracker
Anyone who has sold on Amazon for more than a minute finds out quickly that the sales rank for a product in its category is paramount. Higher-rank products do better overall than those that sit lower on the charts. Keeping track of all this is a process; some tools do this better than others. Even more powerful than this is how products are ranking for keyword searches.
Jungle Scout Rank Tracker makes quick work of this process. A part of the Jungle Scout package, Rank Tracker lets sellers see how their products rank for specific keywords or phrases at a moment’s notice.
With a list of ranked keywords, group them into categories and track your product’s momentum as it gains popularity and becomes more ubiquitous on the Amazon platform.
Rank Tracker Features
Let’s explain how Rank Tracker does what it does and its value. Rank Tracker is one component of Jungle Scout, but within it, multiple unique features and capabilities can be utilized.
Know Your Rank. One of the most essential facts any seller should know is where their product sits in Amazon search results. Rank Tracker generates a list of positions based on keyword searches in mere moments. This critical information will make the rest of these features more powerful.
Track Competition. Creativity doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Knowing where your competition stands can be incredibly beneficial in making future product decisions and strategy adjustments. Adjust your strategy based on what you find and potentially go so far as to develop the next product feature improvements based on the successes and failures you’re seeing with your competition’s keyword ranking.
New Opportunities. After generating your keyword ranking lists, you might find that your listing is missing out on some keywords and keyword phrases. Take an opportunity to adjust your listing and include those keywords to potentially gain lost sales.
Flag Inefficient Keywords. Some keywords just won’t perform. There’s no sense in paying for PPC and spending hours crafting a quality listing based on keywords that may never yield any sales.
Product Organization. You’ll find Jungle Scout Rank Tracker’s list organization abilities beneficial in sorting and disseminating helpful product information. With groups, adding new keywords to the lists becomes trivial, and tracking their changes over time.
Top Status. One of the most satisfying things about selling on Amazon is seeing when your products hit the critical status of being the top 10 products for a search. Landing on a keyword search’s first or two pages means extra sales and profits.
Keyword Management. Handling keywords within Jungle Scout goes way beyond Rank Tracker. All the keyword actions you do here also translate to other tool parts. Jungle Scout aims to make the entire selling process a streamlined experience, and having end-to-end management of keywords is a massive step in making that happen.
Getting Started With Rank Tracker
Setting up your first keyword list is practically painless. First, launch Rank Tracker and click Add Product. Next, plug in an ASIN (yours or your competitor’s) and list the keywords you want to track this product against.
That’s it. Watch as the data rolls in and be ready to make more informed decisions without needing to refill your cup of coffee a second time. It’s that quick.
7. Jungle Scout Alerts
Jungle Scout Product alerts can be set up within a few different categories:
- Best Seller Rank
- Presence of New Sellers
- Change of Listing Category
- Pricing Changes
- Review Changes
Tracking Your Products’ States
Some of those you’ll notice come into play when there’s a potential for other sellers to start selling the same product. For private-label businesses, this is critical, as counterfeits may be entering the arena, so to speak, and can cause havoc for your legitimate business.
RELATED: The Amazon Intellectual Property Accelerator is built to make brand name acquisition and Brand Registry a painless process and solve these kinds of problems.
Not all of these alert categories will be useful, and sellers will have different needs, but keeping tabs on product quality and the state of the listing is a must. For example, if a seller joins the listing and tanks the price, your margins are affected, and you could lose sales entirely.
With that, tracking reviews is paramount. If you see review averages start to slip, something might be wrong with the product. Jungle Scout Product Alerts can be that first red flag to get your attention early, before your product’s reputation is permanently damaged.
New Product Alerts
So your existing product tracking is on point. What about new stuff? Looking for an opportunity yourself is fine, but having them come to you is even better. Product Alerts can keep tabs on competitive products so you can make informed decisions about what may be next to add to your brand’s portfolio.
Sales and Inventory Snapshots
This is one of my favorite aspects of Jungle Scout Product Alerts. Knowing when to order more products doesn’t have to be complicated. The daily alert emails have a section dedicated exclusively to this purpose. Know how much to order and never over-buy, keeping more money in your pocket.
Taking this to the next level, you’ll know how much to order right now and how much you’ll likely need to order in the next 30 days. Give your suppliers a heads up about incoming orders and become your sales representative’s best friend. Suppliers and distributors love future order knowledge so they can plan ahead and ensure their customers are satisfied.
8. Jungle Scout Inventory Manager
TheWhenread about this feature, the first question I had “doesn’t Seller Central do this already?” The answer is yes, kind of. It’s not impossible to track inventory in Seller Central, but let’s face it. It’s never easy to find what you need to know, inventory order recommendations are always flawed and bothersome, and when you find the correct info, good luck skimming it and getting an answer quickly.
Jungle Scout Inventory Manager shows you a more straightforward, heads-up view of your inventory and its status. Whether you need to reorder now or soon, have too much, or the levels are perfect for supporting current sales volume. If you find yourself needing to reorder, you’ll see a date on which you should do so to ensure you don’t run out of stock.
Next to that, you’ll find yourself a reorder quantity number. When that date comes up, this is what you need to be buying. If you’ve placed any regular sizable order from a supplier, they probably mentioned at some point that a heads-up is ideal.
With these two bits of data at your disposal, you can shoot an email or phone call to your supplier(s) and let them know that you’ll need another quantity order on a specific date. Even if it’s a month out, giving them a heads up so they can prepare means you’re on their nice list. The salesperson will be happy, the company will be happy, and small favors like that can add to a supplier-retailer relationship.
All this information can be controlled by the data you provide. It helps to input your product’s cost, re-order frequency, what minimum re-orders look like, and other factors. Jungle Scout considers all this when providing your recommendations.
I am confident that this is precisely the kind of view into inventory sellers need daily. But of course, there will be days when deep dives are essential, but making a quick buying decision isn’t going to be one of them.
Other Killer Components of Jungle Scout
These didn’t make my Power Features reviews list but are still incredibly useful:
- Launch – Your new product is ready to go. Jungle Scout Launch eliminates the hassle of getting it in front of new customers.
- Market – We’re not all experts in everything. Jungle Scout Market is what it sounds like: a marketplace for sellers to contract with experts to work on specific components of their selling pipeline. Need help with building a listing? Finding product ideas? Product photography? Trademarks? It’s all there.
- Chrome Extension – The companion to the Jungle Scout web app, the extension brings some of the most potent data-driven metrics to Amazon pages. See sales data, opportunity value, and more for about anything without leaving Amazon’s site.
The fact that Jungle Scout exists tells me there was a massive hole in the market for a tool that can check all the boxes and be affordable. I’m incredibly stoked to work with these folks and looking forward to how many multiples we can grow together.
With its easy-to-use interface, vital statistics are served front and center. Go from zero to power seller with everything Jungle Scout offers, and make 2023 the best year ever.
